Earlier this year, Virginia Rounds, Director of MAT² Apprenticeship Program discussed with Medill Reports the various benefits of apprenticeship programs, such as the MAT² Apprenticeship Program, for companies and apprentices.
Apprenticeships are popular in Europe and are salaried training programs that teach people on-the-job skills. The MAT² Apprenticeship Program is based off the well-known German Dual Education System, and is managed by the German American Chamber of Commerce (GACC).
The MAT² Apprenticeship Program helps companies build their own pipeline of talent while also attracting more people to careers in the manufacturing industry.
“For the manufacturing industry to survive in the United States, we need a skilled workforce. And the people just aren’t coming from nowhere. You have to build them,” said Rounds.
